Madrid to Seville

I´m writing from an internet cafe in the heart of Seville. This city is gorgeous, with winding cobblestone streets and beautiful plazas throughout the city.

Here is a bullet form summary of the last few days:

  • Day 2 of Madrid consisted of going to two art museums (one classical and one modern) and a long walk through Parque del Buen Retiro.  The park was next to our hotel and it was huge.  There were tons of people out enjoying the mild weather.

  • We went out that night for tapas.  I made the mistake of wearing heels after walking around the city all day.  We were out till 3 am though – people stay out all night in this country.
  • On Sunday we were planning on going to the train station to reserve our tickets to Seville, but then spending the morning going to a famous market in Madrid.  However, we got to the train station at 10 am (pretty exhausted from our night out) and found out the only train to Seville was at 11!  We booked it back to the hotel, packed, checked out.  We tried to take a cab to the train station but ironically the Madrid Marthon was blocking most of the roads.  We hopped on the marathon and made the train by the skin of our teeth.
  • Because we were so exhausted from the Madrid-Seville debacle, once we got to Seville we grabbed a bite, then napped for a few hours.  Then went out for dinner.  It was a much needed rest day.  And I managed to find a place that served salad…I´ve missed my veggies!
  • Speaking of veggies, it´s hard to be vegetarian here (which I´m not doing).  Check out a veggie sandwich I ordered on the train.  It´s white bread with a few pieces of lettuce and a tomato.
  • Today we slept in then saw the sites of Seville.  Including Seville´s Cathedral,
  • And the palace – Alcazar – which is the oldest palace still in use in Europe.  It was amazing.
  • Tonight we are going to see a Flamenco show!
  • We planned out the rest of our itinerary.  We are in Seville until early Wednesday, then taking the train to Granada.  We are spending one/day night there, then renting a car and driving to Sierra Nevada mountains for hiking, and then to a small beach town called Cabo de Gato for a 1.5 days.  Then it´s Valencia for a few days, Barcelona for 5 days, then Madrid one last time and home.
