This morning started out great. I went to a yoga class with a new instructor. I like that boundless yoga really focuses on making sure that you are doing the poses correctly.
I hopped back on my bike and headed to work. I was riding in the right side of the middle lane because a truck was parked in the right lane. After I passed the truck, I went to switch into the far right lane.
Unfortunately, I went over a ridge in the road the wrong way and my bike flipped on its side. I was thrown half off the bike onto the right side of my body. I was a bit disoriented and a few people on the sidewalk helped me get up and move my bike off the road.
I looked down and I was bleeding pretty badly from my right elbow, knee and a part of my lower stomach. I was very shaken up, so I called Neil and shed a few tears. Then I decided to walk to work to pick up my laptop and planned to go back home.
Walking down the street, I guess I looked like a bloody mess because everyone was staring at me.
I picked up my laptop, told my boss what happened, and walked to catch a bus home.
At the bus station, a kind gentleman gave me a bunch of bandaids and a wipe to clean myself up.
It’s ironic that yesterday I was complaining about rude people, and that today the strangers on the sidewalk and this man went out of their way to make sure I was OK. I am sending thank-you-vibes to all those people!
Neil had waited for me at home, so he helped me clean up the wounds, spray them with antiseptic spray and bandage them up. I also took aspirin which is helping a lot because before the cuts were hurting a lot. The one on my stomach is particularly bad.
I’ll post pictures later of the wounds. This is an accident that can really happen to anyone – it’s more likely when you are taking a route you are not used to (I pretty much know all the potholes from home to work, but from the yoga studio to work I am less familiar with). I’m also lucky there was no car behind me in the right lane. This could have obviously been a lot worse.
I was planning on a bike ride with my dad and a swim tonight, but I’m 99% sure neither of those will happen.

Yowza! Hope you heal up quickly! Taking a nasty fall is one of my biggest fears when riding – I’ve been lucky so far though.
Eek! Take it easy for the rest of the day!
Oh no! I hope you feel better soon. But now you’ve gotten that first fall out of the way. I know it hurts, but you’re right, it could have been so much worse. Take the time to heal up!
Oh no! I hope you feel better soon. Taking the day to work from home was a great choice!
Oh nooo
I’m so sorry friend! I hope you heal quickly. Hang in there!
You poor thing! As a clumsy, infrequent cyclist, I can attest that that’s the sort of thing that CAN happen to anyone—it just stinks that it happened to you! Take it easy, and feel better soon!
