Weekend Recap: Summer in DC Edition

This weekend my best friend Ashley from college came to visit. She came in late Friday night so I spent Friday afternoon/evening cleaning the house and doing yard work. Note: the worst part of home ownership has got to be yard work. A clean kitchen makes me way happier than I should admit.

Took a break to make a grilled veggie sandwich and oven-baked sweet potato “chips.” I used our mandolin for the chips, but I think I like sweet potato fries better.

Saturday morning I took Ashley to Eastern Market. I hadn’t been there in ages and it was definitely a perfect DC weekend activity.

Bought flowers for the house:

Saturday night we headed to the Jack Johnson concert. We tried to get there earlier, but the last 2 miles of the drive took an hour because of all the concert goers. Since I was driving we only brought a few beers to tailgate, but I only had a huge cooler. This picture makes me laugh.

I am actually not that into his music so I was shocked by how many people were there. I had no idea he was so huge! We had lawn seats and they definitely oversold it. There was not enough room for everyone.

Don’t step on us!

The show was really good. It was a great way to spend a summer evening.

Sunday we had brunch at Red Rocks. It was a little hot but outside seating was necessary since we brought the dog.

After my friend left, I was feeling sad and very lethargic. I knew I should work out, but I was tired and unmotivated. I also had a dinner planned that night for my brother and his new fiance (congrats guys!) so I didn’t have tons of time.

Finally at around 5 pm, I put on my sneakers and went for a run. I brought the dog for the first mile or so, and then finished up a total of 3 miles without her. I didn’t get as many miles as I had planned for the weekend, but sometimes life gets in the way. On the bright side, I felt 100% better that I got a workout in. It was so hot out that I was drenched with sweat after.

I took a quick shower, went out to dinner at Raku (so good) to celebrate my brother’s engagement and went to bed soon after getting home. It was SO great to have a weekend home, and the best part is I will be home the next 2 weekends too.
