Today marks exactly two months until I run the Marine Corps Marathon – assuming I make it through the next 2 months injury free. I’ve been feeling a little pain in my shins, not localized or severe, so I’m hoping they are normal running aches and not something more serious. I’ll obviously be paying close attention to them.
So far the training has gone well. I’ve had some tough runs, but I’m actually excited to up my mileage in the next few weeks. I’m also proud to say that I have hit all my workouts. In fact, the only days I’ve “missed” are doing workouts on rest days. Don’t worry. I’m not doing crazy intense workouts when I add something else to my routine. Usually its just adding another day of bike commuting or some strength training.
Look at all those stickers! I highly recommend the calendar-sticker method if you need some extra motivation.
All in all in August I have run a total of 85.1 miles. This is actually a lot less compared to two months out last time, but hopefully less running = less injuries!
If you noticed the date, you may have figured out that the Marine Corps Marathon is on Halloween. I have a few months to figure out if I am going to dress up during the race. I wouldn’t risk wearing anything too crazy, since its important to test-drive your race gear before race day, but I think it would be fun to do something. If you have any ideas for a fun race costume, hit me up in the comments!
Tomorrow I’ll be reviewing the progress in my August goals, and set some new ones for September. I can’t believe today is the last day of August…wahhhhh!

Oh my gosh you definitely have to dress up! I can’t wait to see what you come up with
fangs! i want to see fangs! also helpful for ripping open those darned Gu packets.
I’m running the Marine marathon too and have been trying to think of a way to dress up! I was thinking about dying my hair a bright temporary color but I’m not sure what else to do. Can’t believe it’s only two months away!
I don’t think I’d dress up. Wouldn’t want one more thing to worry about pre-race! Maybe get orange and black shoelaces or something. That is about as adventurous as I’d be. Have you ever tried the Zensah leg sleeves for your shins? I’ve been thinking about trying them. I still run with KT Tape, but I don’t know if it really helps.
I totally want to dress up for Marine Corps. I always run a Halloween 5K and have been known for making ridiculous costumes, but nothing I would want to wear for 26.2!
Superheroes wouldn’t be too bad to run in. I’ve done Supergirl and Space Ghost. Though the latter had a mask. That wouldn’t be comfortable!
But since I’m fundraising for a charity, I figure I should probably wear their shirt
(Even though I paid my own race entry … just wanted to do something good!)
Gina — careful with the temp hair dye — sweat will make it run!
Definitely want to make sure the costume is something that won’t chafe or be uncomfortable. Maybe something with a cape. I like the idea of super heros…you could go with shorts and a t in the necessary colors with a logo and throw on a cape or something.
I really wanted to dress up as a carrot and say “powered by veggies” for my first full
That’s the funniest idea ever.
