As you probably guessed, Friday night I consumed many drinks and was pretty useless all day Saturday. But I did have a fun night and blew off steam with my friends Kate & Leigh Ann. We went all around Logan Circle. Beginning of the night:
End of the night:
The only thing I did on Saturday was take Leela to Rock Creek for the first time in a while. She is still limping, so we’re taking her to a specialist tomorrow. The things I do for this dog!
Saturday night I bikeshared over to an awesome Moroccan themed dinner party hosted by my friend Kelaine and her roommates. They decorated the dining room with sheets and blankets and we all ate on the floor. I forgot to take pictures. Boo.
Sunday morning was the Love the Run You’re with 5k. Looking at my results on Athlinks, I have actually only run one other 5k that I can recall, and that was this past summer at the Battle of Ballston. When I started running, I pretty much went straight into long distance, so I haven’t had much experience with short races.
I picked up Emily bright and early and we headed to Arlington. The race was not overly crowded like most of the ones around here, but it was very hilly. I was completely taken aback when I turned the first corner and saw a very steep hill. Still, my splits were exactly even according to my Garmin:
- Total time: 24:18 (chip time: 24:17.3)
- Average pace: 7:46
- Mile 1, 2 and 3: 7:48
- .13: 6:44
I was pushing myself the entire run but I didn’t want to keel over and die afterwards. To me, that means I could have run harder. I guess I have trouble pushing myself that far out of my comfort zone, and that is probably one of the reasons I like long-distance running better (slower, more comfortable pace).
Afterwards a big group of us went to brunch, including bloggers/tweeters: Katie, Emily, Amy, Liz, Beth, Carly, Cheryl, Kate and Emily. Best part of the race was definitely the company at this meal.
Emily & Katie very excited about free pastries:
I had intentions of going to a yoga class, or at least a bike ride this afternoon. Or at least clean the house or do some cooking. Or AT LEAST take a shower. But then this happened.
I downloaded Hunger Games and cannot put it down. Anyone else a fan?

Solid brunch picture #2 (after Beth’s close-up of me with the croissants). Am I giving a thumbs up? Wasn’t my intention, but sure does look like it!
You will love that whole series! I cannot keep them on the shelves in my classroom – such great books!
Should I feel weird that I have the same taste in books as your students?
I’m the same way when it comes to running. I’d much rather run slower, longer distances than faster, shorter ones.
I read Hunger Games to see what the fuss was about and liked it. I felt like it was a mix of Survivor and Twilight. I started Book 2 but haven’t gotten into it and stopped reading for now. My sister read all three and said they’re all great, which everyone that reads them all says.
I think I’m going to wait a few days to start the second so I can actually be productive!
EW! that’s not love, there was croissant on his face. what? i love me some melty sugar!
so good to see you again. maybe next time it won’t be, erm, 7 months in between.
also, i’m still on the couch. what’s hunger games about?
It is so crazy I can’t even explain it. Its a young adult book series, but apparently its right at my maturity level.
Great run, Liz – I think that’s a great time. I often feel like I could have pushed harder with 5ks, because I just don’t enjoy going that fast
I’d rather torture myself longer but run slower. Looks like you had a fun weekend!
Congratulations on the run! It was fun hanging out, but I’m sorry we didn’t get to chat more. Because I would have talked your ear off about how fantastic the Hunger Games is.
Yes, we need to sit next to each other next time please.
Great race! I love that you ran even splits. My biggest problem in the 5K is sprinting the first mile and completely losing steam. I hope to run another 5K for a PR soon.
I’m glad you had a great time with your friends! Sometimes a good time with good people is the best way to recover from a stressful week.
Looks, like you had a fun weekend!!! Great time for your 5k and looks like an awesome blog meetup! Ps I made your squash burgers last night!
Hope they turned out OK!
Nice job at the 5k yesterday! And I did all that stuff (yoga, aquajogging, etc) after the race and I am toast today. Should have stayed in bed reading. Good choice!
Ahh looks like so much fun! And amazing job on your 5k!! I did that race last year and I agree – it was REALLY hilly!
It was great meeting you guys yesterday! It was such a big group that I ended up talking to some other super fun folks for most of the time, but had a great time
I get to try a short run outside on Thursday and I’m so excited!
I loved the Hunger Games. I seriously could not put those books down. I even got my brother to read them and he was hooked. He said he hasn’t read a book since Green Eggs & Ham…and I believe him.
Yay that you are going back to running this week! We should do another meet-up soon.
I was on the fence about Hunger Games and then I read your update and ordered it off Amazon!
Thanks again for the ride yesterday. The race and pre/post-race activities were such a blast!
Sounds like a great race. I knew I should have signed up for it!
Looks like a blast! Can’t wait to meet up with the gang for another post-race brunch once my ACL is all healed!
Congrats on the 5k! I think even splits are so impressive!! I am the worst about that. And I have a hard time with those fast, short races too. I’d much rather run longer at a slower pace. I was trying to explain this to a co-worker this morning as my reasons for choosing marathons over 5Ks but I’m pretty sure she just thought I was crazy.
Sounds like you had a great weekend!! Big meals are the best part of races. And it’s been forever since I’ve really lost myself in a book. I’ve heard a lot of great things about that one so I want to check it out.
haha only a runner would understand like marathons over 5ks
[...] of a really long table. There was a lot of laughter at my end of the table, and by the looks of the pictures that Liz has, the other side of the table was having just as much fun. I’m pretty excited to see this [...]

I have been meaning to pick up Hunger Games for a while now. It has been recommended to me about a billion times.
Congrats on your race on Sunday, it was so nice to finally meet you! See you at the next bloggy love fest!
