I don’t have the Sunday night blues because I’m too exhausted to worry about the weekend ending. This morning I was up at around 5:30 to head to the Capitol Hill Classic 10K. I met up with Chase & Victoria beforehand and I was pleasantly surprised with a not-crowded start line.
The course started at 7:30. We were worried it might rain but it held off. Even though the temps were pleasant, it was very humid out. The race went by quickly thanks to the beautiful Capitol Hill neighborhood scenery (think gorgeous old row houses). It was mostly flat, with one killer uphill in the last mile. This was one of my favorite DC courses ever. My final time was 52:28 (average pace @8:27). It certainly wasn’t my best race, but I wasn’t aiming to PR since I had been on the trainer until about 9 pm the night before and was trying to keep a “this is a training run” mindset. I started out a little too fast with a race mentality, but talked myself out of it. This was a good thing because I would need my energy for later in the day.
Afterwards, we went to brunch at Le Pain Quotidien, where we enjoyed a well-earned breadbasket.
Thanks ladies for being such great company! ![]()
When I got home, the weather was just gorgeous. I hadn’t ridden my bike outside (see trainer note above) yesterday because of gloomy weather, so I asked Neil if he was interested in a short bike ride and he was. It is supposed to rain all week, so I’m glad I got in a ride. We only did 10 miles, but better than nothing.
Lastly, I had a swim date with Nyema to make up for my missed workout last Wednesday. At this point I was pretty tired and took it slowly. I lost track of the number of laps I swam, but stayed in for about 30 minutes.
53 minutes of running + ~40 minutes of biking + 30 minutes of swimming = a reverse triathlon! Not quite a real triathlon, but I think I earned tomorrow’s rest day.
Unfortunately the night ended with a bit of car trouble – hopefully nothing major – but a pain in the *ss either way. It’s times like these I wish I could bike everywhere.
Last but not least, the winner of the Running on Empty giveaway is Michelle @ The Runner’s Plate!

An 8:27 pace is pretty awesome. Such a fun race meetup; we should do it again.
I’d say you earned a race day for sure!
Sounds like a great day, other than the car troubles! I ran that 10k a few years ago and totally agree with your assessment. Running up Capitol Hill at the end is rough!
Despite last night, this sounds like an awesome weekend! I’m signing up for Rock Hall TODAY!
Ahh I’m so sad I missed the race! It sounds like a good one and congrats on your time!!!
Nice race and pretend tri! You totally earned a rest day.
Sorry you couldn’t make it yesterday. That sounds so frustrating!!
Congratulations!! Not only on a great race but for all that you accomplished AFTERWARD! I usually spend the time after a race on the couch so I’m super impressed!!
that’s a freakin sweet time on the 10K, and it means you came in just ahead of Thom.
awesome but tiring weekend, friend. we missed you last night!
It is nice to take a break from racing every once in a while. I need to do some fun runs this summer after my marathon!
I can’t believe I won! This is the first give-a-way I’ve won; I’m so excited to read the book and eat the goodies!
Congrats on a great race and killer day of workouts! After a race – even a 5K – I am so lazy! You are becoming quite the triathlete!
And I love Le Pain Quotidien!
