I hope all my fellow Americans had a great long weekend. I’m back from Portland, OR and instead of doing a big recap post I’m giving you the Cliff Notes version.
- This is my third time visiting Portland, and the first time we had nice weather. Nice weather meant wine tasting, a street festival, and a blues festival.

- It also meant renting this awesome quadracycle bike (and laughing hysterically while riding it):
- I
forcedasked Lauren to take me to a track for my speed workout. In exchange I bought her this Target workout shirt everyone has been blogging about. And yes, we wore matching shirts to the track. - My older brother and his fiance are moving across the country to San Francisco in a few weeks. He got an amazing job offer that he couldn’t turn down. I’m happy for them but very sad to see them leave.
- Neil and I have plans to move next summer – we can’t move any sooner because we got a nice tax incentive when we bought our house and would have to pay it back if we didn’t stay there a full three years. I wish we could move sooner because I feel ready now.
- My commuter bike was stolen off our front porch while we were out of town. I usually don’t keep it locked up out there for more than a few days, so it wasn’t as surprising as it was disappointing. I will probably start riding my road bike into work, but then I’d have to keep it in my office because I’ve heard stories about bikes being stolen from the garage (and now I’m even more paranoid than usual). Hopefully people at work won’t think I’m weirdo when they see a bike taking up half my office.
- I love 4th of July and everything, but my neighbors were shooting off fireworks until midnight. Does that make me a cranky old person that I wanted to go to sleep?
- My century is just 3.5 weeks away and I don’t feel ready. This weekend I will be doing a 60 mile bike ride, so hopefully that will give me a much needed confidence boost!
What was the highlight of your long weekend?

Wow sounds like a fun weekend in Portland! I’ve never been there but want to go so bad! The highlight of my weekend was a 3-4 hour tubing trip on the river in the Shenandoah Valley!
how lame to steal a bike! the highlight of my weekend was time on the beach!
Ummmmmmmmmmm depending on when you plan to do that 60 miler I might want to join you.
Moving…within the district or to a new city?
You are more ready than you think. It will be great! When are you riding 60?
BOOO and certain painful death to bike thieves! It’s worth your time to report it and QUICKLY register it here: http://stolenbicycleregistry.com/howworks.php
And keep checking Craigslist. You might see it. I’ve got my fingers crossed for you.
You’re gonna rock your Century. Also, I was in bed before 10 pm. Hello office, we need the day AFTER 4th of July off!
what a bummer about the bike!! i’ll totally keep my eyes out for that no good thief.
I have that same Target top in the same color – and I love it!
Major bummer on the bike.
Where are you going to move to? I hear Minneapolis is nice….
Sorry about your bike! What a bummer
I feel the same way about fireworks. I was cringing inside the house waiting for those darn squealing fireworks to wake up the baby. Luckily, it just bothered the dog.
It was funny to see all the trash out in the neighborhood when I went out for my run this morning!
Where are you moving too? Boston?!?! haha i wish. i am so sorry about your bike! but glad you had a great weekend. my weekend was relaxing and trying to run and when i say trying i mean heading out for a 9 mile run expecting to keep about a 7:50 pace or less and keeping oo a 10 minute pace, i officially have no clue what is going on lol
I hate stupid bike thieves. Sorry about your bike!
I also have that shirt. In fact, I have two of them and I’m wearing one right now. Sorry about your bike. I had one stolen from my apt like 6 years ago and I’m still mad about it. Where do you want to move? Atlanta?!
Sounds like an amazing weekend. I’ve never been to Portland, and so I’m super excited that I get to visit this summer. Like everyone else I want to know – where will you move?
I’m really sorry to hear about your bike. That’s so awful.
That’s funny. I just wrote a really similar post! I’m so behind.
Sounds like a great trip and I’m sorry about the bike!
Portland sounds amazing! I’m so sorry to hear someone stole your bike. People suck!
I can’t wait to find out where you move!
Where are you moving?!? Personally even though all my family is in the area, I’d get the hell out of DC.
Sorry about your bike! Good luck with the 60 miler this weekend and the century coming up!!
Oh and I totally forgot to mention that four person bike looks hilarious!!
Had to send you a message, will you be around Labor Day? I am coming to DC
