Stressball

One of the reasons I haven’t been blogging as much lately is because I’ve been a big ball of stress lately.  And I’m sure you don’t want to hear me b*tch about it.  Or do you?  I’ll go with yes then :)

I’m managing a particularly stressful project at work (which, might I add I wanted nothing to do with because I hate the subject matter, but then took after my boss kindly reminded me my review is coming up).  I’ve had to work the last two weekends.  I know that it is nothing compared to a lot of you, but I prefer to completely shut off my work-mind at exactly 6 pm on Friday and keep it off until 9 am Monday.

Last night I had another stressful event (good stressful, which of course I have to be vague about in typical-blogger fashion).  Fortunately afterwards Neil and I had restaurant week reservations at my favorite restaurant in all of DC, Rasika.

A mango cosmo after a long, tough day tastes even better.

Some other stress relievers the last few days….

A very short bike ride on Sunday.  I was walking Leela, and the rain had finally cleared so I decided to go for a short & quick ride in Rock Creek Park.  It was nice to ride for just a little bit, instead of an epic bike ride that lasts hours.

Baking & cooking.  This weekend I baked Emily’s blueberry banana bread and a delicious Indian recipe from this slow cooker cookbook.

A five minute afternoon break.  Even if I can’t take a lunch break, I will still go outside for 5 minutes to soak up some sun and stop thinking about work.

A 7 mile run with the sunrise this morning.  I’m getting to parts of Room where I don’t want to stop listening!  It is scary, but completely enthralling.

Looking at pictures on the Washington Humane website for a few minutes.  I’m not sure if we’ll ever be ready to adopt a second dog (at least not in our tiny house), but how can I be stressed after seeing a picture like this?

Does anyone else use puppy pictures to cheer themselves up?  If so, visit Katie on wordless wednesdays for guaranteed cuteness overload.

  • I still have no idea how you listen to books while running! I have never tried it so can’t knock it but I am so impressed haha

  • oh LOOK at those cutie pies! i get sucked into rescue websites and can almost convince myself that we need another dog. then i realize THAT IS INSANE.

You would need to buy another, bigger car.
I would love to join you guys but I’m going camping…counting down the minutes! Next week perhaps?

  • When I am bored I go onto animal shelter sites all the time and look at all the cute cats/kittens. I want a second one so bad.

Hope you are feeling less stressed today.

  • I loved Room! Such a great book, and amazing to know that really happened. I look at pics of my puppy all the time! And I loved that Blueberry Banana bread.

  • Man I reallly need to get into the book on tape thing! Do you download them off itunes?

  • Sorry life is stressful lately! I hope things ease up for you soon.

  • Ahh, I was on the Human Society website this weekend perusing dogs I wish my building would let me adopt!!! They’re sooooo adorable, I wish I could spend every day playing with them. BTW I’ve heard Bombay Club is also supposed to have great Indian food; have you ever tried it? It’s owned by the same restaurant group and I keep meaning to give it a shot but I can’t pass up Rasika when I’m craving really good Indian food.

  • I love looking at pictures of cats and dogs to cheer me up :) Or drink a large mango cosmo!!

  • Puppy pictures are magic. Even cat pictures can work in a pinch. :)

  • I’m sorry things have been so stressful lately!! I don’t blame you for complaining about working weekends – I would be miserable. I know I’m lucky in the fact that I have a very normal work schedule and don’t ever really have to work any sort of overtime, so I feel really bad when I hear how much work others have to put in. I hope it all settles down soon!

I also have to admit that pictures of puppies make me feel better. How could it not? :)

  • l hope things get easier for you soon!!! Thats my favorite part of my job- as soon as I’m stressed and over the project, it’s gone…. unlike government work that can lasts for years….

  • Leela is so cute. I love dogs too, they always know how to make you smile after a long hard day and no matter what they’re always there :) great blog, looks like we’ve got a lot in common :) hope work isn’t too stressful, just be thankful we have jobs in this economy!! LOL.. thats what i have to remind myself when i want to scream at work! so deep breath, it will get done.. relax and try to stay positive :)

  • So sorry life has been stressful and thatbu had to take on the project! But soon it will be labor day and we can do lots of drinking and running in no particular order and be stress free. And yes add some cute doggie pics to boot lol. Cheer up!

I always look at dog pictures. I mostly keep it to Abe and Nigel though because a. they are the cutest and b. if I look at Lost Dog there’s a pretty good chance I’ll show up at the adoption event over the weekend and bring another one home. I’m sorry you’ve had a stressful week!
