In preparation for next week’s 10K, Neil and I set out on a 5 mile run on Saturday. Aside from running part of the Chicago Marathon with me, this is the longest Neil has run since high school.
We drove to Beach Drive and did an out and back. We talked the first few miles and then focused on picking up the pace after the turnaround point.
Neil did awesome – we executed beautiful negative splits.
(I should note Beach Drive is practically set up for negative splits because there is a slight incline on the way out and a slight decline on the way back. But we were definitely pushing it the last 2 miles).
A few hours later, we headed back to Rock Creek Park with Neil’s brother Matt to walk the dogs. Sadly, practically all the leaves have fallen from the trees, especially compared to a week ago.![]()
Today should have been another day of family fitness. We were planning on doing a 20 mile bike ride with my parents, followed by beer and football with friends. It would have been the perfect day for a bike ride, with temperatures reaching the sixties.
Unfortunately, I’ve had pretty crippling stomach pains all day and they have been getting worse. Leela was also up all night again with her own stomach problems, so the LizRunsDC household is a bit of a mess right now.
I’m praying that I am better by tomorrow because I have a very busy couple of work days before I can enjoy the long, holiday weekend.
Congratulations to everyone who raced this weekend! I can’t wait to read the recaps.

Nice run guys! Aaron is doing his first 5k on January 1st. Wish we could do one all together!
Awesome run! I used to take my boyfriend out on jogs all the time…usually accidentally tricking him into a 6 or 7 miler by saying it’d just be short- haha!
Wow, that’s his longest run in years and he can still pace like that?? Crazy. Hope you’re feeling better today!!
Those are seriously beautiful negative splits!! Awesome run and I hope you’re feeling better!
I’m sorry you guys are all sick! And, I’m still jealous of your RCP walks with Leela. Maybe we’ll come meet you one day?
Oh man, I hope you’re feeling better soon! Stomach stuff is the worst.
Hope you feel better! Loved that Neil ran with you! Couples that run together, stay together. I think that was Ashton and Demi’s problem…
I ran with my man too, for the first time in several months (he’s been injured). It was fantastic.
Feel better, tummy!
