Welcome to my blog

I'm a 20-something running my way through Denver.

2012 Races

Denver Rock n' Roll Half Marathon (9-22) Bear Chase Trail Half Marathon (9-30)

Like a rollercoaster baby, baby

The last few weeks have been a little bit of an emotional roller coaster.

Some good stuff: hearing news about awesome people moving to CO, my dad and Joey the dog coming to visit for a few days, my high school BF Lauren coming to visit, a Red Hot Chili Peppers concert, and going [...]

A Family-Filled Long Weekend

When we decided to move to Denver, one of the biggest adjustments would be living thousands of miles away from family.  My parents, Neil’s parents, and Neil’s brothers all live(d) in the DC area.  His two youngest brothers just left for college.  My brother and wife also lived in DC in years past, but moved [...]

The Perfect Mix

I learned a valuable lesson this weekend.  Corporate America should change over to four day work weeks (with a three day weekend).  After taking Friday off, I came to work this morning feeling rested, happy and revitalized.  I have Friday off again this week, which makes me positively giddy.

With a three day weekend [...]

Hikes & Hot Springs

Instead of stewing in the Monday blues, I’m going to look back at a great weekend (and look forward to the next one since I’m taking Friday off).

Friday night kicked off with a reunion with my camp friend Anna.  We went to sleep away camp together when we were 13 or 14 for two [...]

A Colorado Vacation

This past weekend was one of those that I wished would never end.

Friday morning, Neil and I naively attempted our first 14er (aka a hike that exceed 14K feet).  We chose Quandary Peak because it was somewhat on the way to our final destination in Salida, CO AND it was only 5.6 miles [...]

Rock Creek Park: Deer Mountain

This post is a first in a series about some of my favorite Rock Creek Park trails.  Please click here for more information.

Trail name: Deer Mountain

Highlights of this trail: deer sightings, feeling cool running over a fallen tree, no horses allowed.   Cons of this trail: fear of falling when running over [...]

Half Marathon Hike

Sadly, I left my memory card in my computer at home over the weekend, so I didn’t take any pictures from our camping trip (a few cell phone pictures from Neil and Matt are below).  Our camping trip included everything a good camping trip should:

S’mores. Grilling (hot dogs for normal people, black bean burger for me). [...]

The Best Exhaustion

I’m so tired right now as a result of an awesome, non-stop weekend.  After a 30 minute swim with Nyema Friday, I worked from home for the day.  This meant I could take Leela on 2 walks in Rock Creek Park – I love seeing her run again after her injury.  She met a dog [...]

Fall Back

The doctor did a quick x-ray and consult and tomorrow I will be getting an MRI.  I’m guessing this will confirm my suspicions that I have tendinitis, which is inflammation of the tendon.  This will probably mean a month or so off from running, which sucks because I will be probably miss the Thanksgiving 10K [...]

GTL

Since everyone appreciated my last Jersey Shore reference, I realized the best Jersey Shore catchphrase could describe the last 2 days. GTL – Liz Runs DC style.

GRUB

Sunday I did my usual cook-up-a-bunch-of-veggies routine. I’m so happy to see the return of winter squash. There was a bit of football-day-drinking on Sunday, for part [...]
