Welcome to my blog

I'm a 20-something running my way through Denver.

Denver RnR Half Marathon Goals

When I registered for the Denver Rock n Roll Half, it was going to be my A race for the fall.  But with a bad spring marathon, training burnout, an injury and a focus on other non-running related things in my life, that plan fell to the wayside.  While it has been nice to not [...]

What’s next?

After finishing a race, most people think about what their next big goal would be.  My IT band injury forced me to slow down and take a breather from running and triathlons.  Not only did I drop out of the Charlevoix Marathon, I also dropped out of the Boulder 70.3.  Normally I would be upset [...]

An Injury Update

It looks like I will NOT be running the Charlevoix Marathon after all.

I’ve certainly learned a lesson here – my body can’t always do what I want it to do.  Sometimes it gets hurt and sometimes it needs to recover.  Next time (although hopefully there won’t be a next time) I’ll give it [...]

Knowing When to Say When

I mentioned last weekend that my leg hurt on my 12 mile run, and then the first few miles of my 13.1 mile run this past weekend.  I also noticed it bothering me later that day when we walked around NYC.  Through the magic of Internet self-diagnosis, I think I have a mild case posterior [...]

Coming Back from a Crash

I mentioned earlier in the week that I wanted to talk about two recent New York Times health articles.  The second article that caught my mind was actually published about a month ago.  The article talks about the difference between bike injuries and running injuries.

Since I’ve had the displeasure of experiencing both in the [...]

Good Things Come in Threes

This week has been much better for me so far.  I’ve been reminding myself that if I can’t change a situation that makes me unhappy, then there is no point thinking about it all the time.  For now I’m trying to focus on the positive and make moves to change the situation.

Also, my day [...]

To Turkey Trot or Not?

As you all know, people across the U.S. start their Thanksgiving holiday with a 5K or 10K Turkey Trot race.  Last year, I went to Rochester with Neil’s family and it was actually my first time participating in a Thanksgiving Day race.  Usually I plan to have a big night out on Wednesday night with [...]

I Feel Good

Have you ever gotten an MRI?  I am very grateful I only had to put my foot in the machine and hope I never have to do a full body scan.  You have to lie completely still – and if you are anything like me – when someone tells you to lie completely still it [...]

Fall Back

The doctor did a quick x-ray and consult and tomorrow I will be getting an MRI.  I’m guessing this will confirm my suspicions that I have tendinitis, which is inflammation of the tendon.  This will probably mean a month or so off from running, which sucks because I will be probably miss the Thanksgiving 10K [...]

Dealing with the Injury Blues

I have to admit I’ve been feeling pretty sad that I haven’t been able to run since the marathon and that my foot isn’t getting any better.  There are a few small races I was planning on doing in the next two months, plus I was hoping on maintaining the fitness I gained from training. [...]
