Welcome to my blog

I'm a 20-something running my way through Denver.

2012 Races

Denver Rock n' Roll Half Marathon (9-22) Bear Chase Trail Half Marathon (9-30)

What’s next?

After finishing a race, most people think about what their next big goal would be.  My IT band injury forced me to slow down and take a breather from running and triathlons.  Not only did I drop out of the Charlevoix Marathon, I also dropped out of the Boulder 70.3.  Normally I would be upset [...]

An Injury Update

It looks like I will NOT be running the Charlevoix Marathon after all.

I’ve certainly learned a lesson here – my body can’t always do what I want it to do.  Sometimes it gets hurt and sometimes it needs to recover.  Next time (although hopefully there won’t be a next time) I’ll give it [...]

Vega Sport Line Review & Giveaway

A few months ago, I started reading the Thrive cookbook by vegan Ironman Brandon Brazier.  It’s a really great cookbook with some delicious vegan recipes.  Coincidentally Vega Sport, which is Brazier’s line of products, contacted me around that time to review their Sports Performance System.*  I received a package from Vega filled with gels, bars [...]

Life without a training plan

This is the second stretch of time in the last two years that I have no training plan whatsoever.  The difference between now and last year when I took a break is that I knew the break was temporary and that 2011 would be full of big races.  And it was – a half marathon, [...]

Recovery Week

I took Monday through Wednesday off completely from working out.  I did do a bit of walking around Denver.  Thankfully, I wasn’t quite as sore as I was last year post-race (when I [...]

Back in the groove

As expected, the weekend was both crazy and amazing.  The bride was beautiful.

The couple was happy.

We ate, we danced, we drank (a lot).

It was basically go-go-go from 3 pm Friday until last night at 8:30 pm when Neil and I plopped on the couch.

I usually am burnt out [...]

Recipe for Success

My favorite night-before-a-long-run meal

+ lots of fuel

+a new book on tape

+moderate temperatures

= a successful 22 mile run.

Like all my runs lately, the first miles start off slow and I finished strong.  I was excited because this is the longest [...]

Recovery

Sunday night I woke up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom and I could not believe how sore my quads were!  I wasn’t sore after my 20 mile training run, so the fact that it was so painful took me by surprise.  I took a sick day on Monday and [...]
